Me

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, I spent my entire life here. I attended Cal Poly Pomona and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. At that time I was just told by family, just get your degree and the job will come! I graduated at a time when the economy was at a pretty low point. Well, everyone and their mother was getting a degree, how am I any different? And I wasn't, I was like everyone else knocking on employers doors trying to get anything. My professors advised our graduating class that we should leave the beautiful home state because it was saturated with people looking for jobs.

I left. I was the family member to leave and relocate myself to a state across the country for a job. I uprooted myself, left my family, my friends, my boyfriend and worked for a hospitality company, called Club Med based in Florida. That's where I ended up working in Human Resources. Getting up and leaving my life was probably the most challenging experiences I had to go through.

I do not regret it for a moment.

I am where I am in my life because of it.

I learned a lot about myself, I am far more independent and I'm actually smarter than I gave myself credit for. I say that because I am a far more well rounded individual both professionally and personally. Going through my own growing pains really did make me a more attentive listener, strategic thinker, and I am a person that genuinely cares about helping others.

I received my Human Resources Management Certification in 2014 from UCLA. I've worked in Human Resources for almost 7 years and I still get surprises thrown my way and that is a good thing.

Which leads me to this project of mine, I can't tell you how many times I am at an event... Birthday Party, Bridal Shower, Luncheon, Bar, Vacation spot, ______________ (fill in the blank) and I get the question or statement along the lines of: "Hey you're in HR, can I ask you something?"

*I'm going to start this space as a Q&A and answer questions to the best of my ability. I will disclose I am not an attorney or any type of legal counsel.*

If there is one thing that I take away from my HR experience is that you have to love people. I've done career advisement, and am open to one on one coaching coaching (check out my LinkeIn for my street cred) as well. What I can do is provide some guidance on where you are going and what you want to do, but keep in mind every single situation is different. There is no formula to fit all people including me. Let's get you excited about our new and changing working environment!

Lots of positive thoughts,

Katrina
